Description
The TimeCutter MAX Havoc 54 is Toro’s prosumer-tier residential zero-turn for properties between two and four acres — a 54-inch lap-bar zero-turn built around the IronForged fabricated steel deck and a Kawasaki commercial-grade V-twin engine. The Havoc edition is the trim level: blacked-out chassis with custom decals over the standard MAX Havoc platform, designed for owners who want the heavier-duty Toro construction in a visually distinctive package.
Power comes from a 24-horsepower Kawasaki V-twin OHV engine displacing 725cc. Kawasaki’s residential V-twin platform shares its overhead valve architecture, full pressure lubrication, automotive-style oil filter, and dual-element premium air filtration with the brand’s commercial line. Owners running the Havoc 54 on a typical weekly residential schedule will see oil and filter changes once a season — essentially the entire engine maintenance routine. Electric key start, automatic choke, and a regulated charging system handle cold mornings without operator intervention.
Twin commercial-grade hydrostatic transaxles power the rear wheels independently, allowing true zero-radius pivoting controlled through a pair of lap bars. Top forward speed is 7.5 mph and reverse runs around 4 mph. Toro’s Smart Speed control system gives the operator three distinct ground-speed ranges — Trim, Tow, and Mow — selectable from a single dash lever, calibrated for different mowing tasks.
The 54-inch IronForged fabricated steel deck is welded from heavier-gauge plate than the stamped decks common to residential zero-turns at this price. Three cutting blades work in side-discharge configuration; cutting heights adjust across seven positions between 1.5 and 4.5 inches via a foot-lift pedal and pin-locked indicator. The deck accepts an optional Toro mulch kit (sold separately).
Operator comfort centers on a high-back seat with armrests, soft-grip lap bars, and a vibration-dampening foot deck. The Havoc edition adds blacked-out chassis paint with custom orange and black decals, oversized rear tires for improved traction, and a premium dashboard finish. The control layout is honest and minimal: ignition, throttle, choke, PTO knob, Smart Speed lever, hour meter.
The chassis is welded steel with a corrosion-resistant powder-coat finish, and the standard rear hitch accepts most popular tow-behind attachments — dump carts, broadcast spreaders, plug aerators, dethatchers, and lawn rollers all mount without modification. Hour meter and cup holder are factory standard.
For two- to four-acre properties where the homeowner wants commercial-grade Toro construction in a visually distinctive package, the TimeCutter MAX Havoc 54 is the most expressive zero-turn in Toro’s residential lineup. The IronForged deck and Smart Speed system are the substance behind the visual upgrade.
