Description
The TS 148XK delivers Husqvarna’s premium 48-inch tractor formula with a Kohler 7000 Series V-twin under the hood instead of the brand’s usual Kawasaki option. For owners who already trust the Kohler engine ecosystem — or who want a more conventional residential V-twin at a slightly lower price than the Kawasaki-powered TS 248XD — the TS 148XK is the right tradeoff. The 48-inch ClearCut deck handles two- to three-acre properties efficiently, and the deluxe seat and oversized steering wheel make longer mowing sessions noticeably less fatiguing.
Power comes from a 24-horsepower Kohler 7000 Series V-twin OHV engine displacing 725cc. The Kohler 7000 is one of the most widely-deployed residential V-twins in North America, with a parts and service network present in nearly every small town. Full pressure lubrication, automotive-style spin-on oil filter, and a paper-element air cleaner round out a long-life engine package built for residential service intervals — oil and filter changes once a season is essentially the entire maintenance routine.
Power reaches the wheels through a Tuff Torq foot-pedal hydrostatic transmission. There are no gears to shift and no clutch to ride. A single forward pedal varies ground speed continuously from a creep to roughly 6 mph; lifting your foot returns the mower to neutral. Reverse runs through a separate pedal at 3 mph. The Tuff Torq is the industry’s reference-grade transmission for residential tractors and is significantly more durable than the off-brand hydrostatic units common at this price point.
The 48-inch reinforced stamped steel deck cuts at six height settings between 1.5 and 4 inches via a fender-mounted lever. Three cutting blades work in parallel, with sealed maintenance-free spindle bearings. Air-induction technology pulls air through the deck shell to lift grass blades for a cleaner cut and improved discharge dispersal. The deck accepts an optional Husqvarna mulch kit or rear bagger (sold separately).
Operator comfort centers on a deluxe 15-inch high-back seat with an extra-thick premium vinyl cushion, an oversized soft-grip steering wheel sized for full forearm leverage on long-radius turns, an integrated cup holder, and a fender-mounted cutting height adjuster designed to be operated without leaving the seat. The dashboard layout is honest and minimal: ignition, throttle, choke, PTO knob, fuel gauge, hour meter.
The chassis is welded steel with corrosion-resistant powder-coat throughout, and the front axle is heavy cast iron for shock load handling. The standard rear hitch accepts most popular tow-behind attachments — dump carts, broadcast spreaders, plug aerators, dethatchers, and lawn rollers all mount without modification.
For a two- to three-acre property without serious slopes or wet-grass conditions, the TS 148XK is the most pragmatic Kohler-powered tractor in Husqvarna’s catalog. The combination of a familiar Kohler engine, a Tuff Torq transmission, and the 48-inch ClearCut deck delivers Husqvarna engineering at a price that competes with house-brand 48-inch tractors elsewhere in the market.
