Description
The XT1 LT46 sits in the heart of Cub Cadet’s Enduro Series — a 46-inch hydrostatic lawn tractor with a 22-horsepower Kohler 7000 Series V-twin under the hood, sized for one-and-a-half to three acres of mostly flat to gently rolling lawn. Where the smaller LT42 makes its case on agility, the LT46 makes its case on cut quality and engine reliability. The 725cc Kohler twin runs cooler, quieter, and significantly longer than the single-cylinder engines that dominate this price segment.
The Kohler 7000 Series KT725 V-twin is a long-life engine with full pressure lubrication, an automotive-style spin-on oil filter, and a sealed maintenance-free combustion air system. Owners who run the LT46 on a typical residential mowing schedule — once a week, April through October — will see oil and filter changes once a season, and that is essentially the entire engine maintenance routine. Electric key start, automatic choke, and a regulated charging system mean cold mornings are not a project.
Power reaches the wheels through a Tuff Torq hydrostatic transmission with foot-pedal control. There are no gears to shift, no clutch to ride, and no transmission belts to slip. A single forward pedal varies ground speed continuously from a creep to roughly 5.5 mph; lifting your foot returns the mower to neutral. Reverse runs through a separate pedal at 2.8 mph. The Tuff Torq is the industry’s reference-grade transmission for residential tractors and is what separates Cub Cadet’s Enduro Series from house-brand competitors.
The 46-inch fabricated steel deck cuts at 12 height settings between 1 and 4 inches via a fender-mounted lever — twice the granularity of competitor decks at this size. Three cutting blades work in parallel, with sealed-bearing maintenance-free spindles. Side discharge is the default mode out of the box; the deck accepts an optional Cub Cadet rear bagger or mulch kit (sold separately).
The 16-inch turning radius is one of the tightest in the steering-wheel tractor category and matches what most light zero-turns offer. Combined with the smooth pedal hydrostatic, the LT46 navigates around trees, beds, and play sets without the constant back-and-forth that defines lower-tier 46-inch tractors. Operators stepping up from a smaller machine notice the difference within the first ten minutes.
Operator comfort centers on a sliding mid-back seat with knob adjustment, a soft-grip steering wheel, dual LED headlights, cruise control, and an integrated cup holder. The chassis is heavy-gauge welded tubular steel with a corrosion-resistant powder-coat finish. The standard rear hitch accepts most popular tow-behind attachments — dump carts, broadcast spreaders, plug aerators, dethatchers, and lawn rollers all mount without modification.
For one-and-a-half to three acres, the XT1 LT46 is the most balanced tractor in Cub Cadet’s lineup. The Kohler twin handles the load, the Tuff Torq handles the drivetrain stress, and the 16-inch turning radius handles the layout most properties actually have. Five-year chassis warranty included.
